Copilot is Microsoft’s latest AI assistant that integrates with other Microsoft products on your network, like Microsoft 365 Office Suite, Windows 11, Bing, and Edge. The commercials you’ve likely seen, including their $14 million Super Bowl ad, promise to change the way you work and play.
For example, you can use it to create content, find files, set reminders, compose emails and documents, create charts in Excel, analyze data, design PowerPoint slides, create and edit images, and even learn new skills. There’s not a lot that “Your New AI Best Friend” can’t do. Resellers of Copilot even say that you can save two to 10 hours of productivity per month per employee.
A lot of hype, right?
But hang on before you rush out to buy it! First, you need to know some things.
First and foremost, the technology currently lacks sufficient security controls to protect your company’s data. Copilot has access to and indexes all files on your network, Outlook, and OneDrive. That means employees could have access to information they shouldn’t such as payroll records, financial data, or HR files.
